BREASTFEEDING: ~ ~ ~The Elixir of Life ~ ~ ~

Did you know: Children who are exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life are 14 times more likely to survive than non-breastfed children!

Breastfeeding ensures early skin-to-skin contact, which is important in preventing hypothermia and establishing the bond between the mother and her child.

#Breastfeeding creates a special bond between mother and baby and gives babies best start to their life. The interaction between the mother and child during breastfeeding has positive repercussions for life, in terms of stimulation, behaviour, speech, sense of well-being and security and how the child relates to other people.

Moreover for the mother, breastfeeding delays the return to fertility.
Early initiation of breastfeeding also reduces a mother’s risk of post-partum haemorrhage, one of the leading causes of maternal mortality.

Spread the message that exclusive breastfeeding prevents the deaths of around 1 million children under five in the developing world each year.

In India, 1.5 million under fives die every year. Global evidence shows that in developing countries, optimal breastfeeding in the first six months of life – initiation of breastfeeding within one hour of birth and exclusive breastfeeding for first six months - have the potential to avert an average 13 per cent of under five deaths.

In India, however, only 46 per cent of infants younger than six months are exclusively breastfed.

Global evidence also highlights that counseling mothers at critical times - individually and in groups, supporting them to breastfeed when they face a problem and influencing social norms and influencers within the family and community can improve breastfeeding practices.

The present generation needs to be reminded of --avoiding --pre--mature births before the age of 18 years --of the lawfully wedded Mothers !!! Prevention is better than cure !!!
